Kitchen
How to specify
The kitchen is the hardest-working surface in any building. Heat zones, sink cutouts and overhangs drive the specification; colour is a distant second.
Recommended materials & thickness
| Material | Thickness | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Quartz | 20 mm | Main countertops: consistent, non-porous, huge palette. |
| Sintered Stone | 12 mm | Behind the range and on waterfall panels: unaffected by pans straight off the hob. |
| Granite | 20 mm | Leathered granite for busy family kitchens — hides crumbs, water marks and fingerprints. |
| Countertops | prefab | Pre-fabricated tops cut on CNC: site work limited to installation and seam finishing. |
Design & installation notes
- Keep hot pans off quartz — the resin binder struggles above ~150 °C. Use sintered stone or granite near ranges.
- Overhangs beyond 300 mm (bar seating) need support at roughly every 600 mm.
- Undermount sinks with a 10 mm polished reveal beat top-mount for hygiene and looks.
Care
- Quartz: no sealing, ever. Granite: once a year. Marble: twice a year, and accept the patina.
