Restaurant

How to specify

Restaurants attack stone with wine, citrus, hot pans and nightly deep cleaning. The winning materials are non-porous or acid-tolerant; polished calcium-based stone loses here, every time.

Recommended materials & thickness

MaterialThicknessWhy
Sintered Stone12 mmTabletops: non-porous, resists wine, citrus and hot pans; matte finish hides ring marks.
Granite20 mmBar tops and service counters — takes abuse and reseals cheaply.
Tiles600×600 mm / 9 mmDining floors in R10 textured finishes; rectified edges keep the grid clean.
Quartzite20 mmWhen the client insists on a marble look that survives the kitchen.

Design & installation notes

  • Specify matte everywhere — polished bar tops reflect downlights and show every glass ring.
  • Use a 20 mm radius on tabletop corners: safer for guests, far more chip-resistant.
  • Order ~5% spare tops; a replacement four years later must still match.

Care

  • Sintered stone and porcelain need no sealing; granite bar tops twice a year.
